So here we are. Less than 20 states to go on my mission to photograph a wedding in every state in the US!
It's been a wild ride so far... traveling this unique and fascinating land, telling true American love stories along the way. BUT why on earth am I doing this?!
Well, this is about more than just taking beautiful wedding photos in a vast array of landscapes. It's about exploring, experiencing and seeking to understanding more about this fascinating country -- it's history, diversity of cultures, traditions, belief systems, priorities and challenges. And WEDDINGS (strange rituals though they seem), appear to be a common thread that unites people around the idea that LOVE is worth celebrating. Regardless of what's happening in the world, the human spirit is most on show during these vulnerable and beautiful moments of connection. This has been evident in every city, neighborhood and country town I've visited so far.
As individual stories, each wedding is an expression of a unique truth between two people. My goal is to immerse myself in these stories, to capture this truth... and expose it to it's participants. The bigger picture is, that no matter where in the country these stories unfold... no matter what specific values, beliefs and preferences are at the core of a relationship, there is distinct commonality among the sheer diversity of this country... and this too, is worth celebrating!
It's safe to say I'm completely addicted to these stories, so I can't wait to get to the rest of the states on my list!
So far, I've dodged angry rattle snakes in California, hiked glacial mountain passes in Montana, and consumed copious volumes of craft beer in Wisconsin - just to name a few of the incredible adventures this mission has led me on. The perspective I've gained from spending time in places I'd never otherwise visit, with people I'd never otherwise engage with, has been eye-opening and life-enriching to say the least!
Here's where I've been so far, and before you ask... YES I will gladly visit some states multiple times, and elopements DO count :)

To say photographing weddings is my passion, wouldn't be entirely accurate. It's more like an addiction... or an obsession. There's just no other life event more curiously beautiful or visually exciting to me. I'm not talking about the flowers, the cake or Uncle Bob's rocking dance moves. I'm more interested in the ritual itself... the vulnerability and bravery of two people putting their love on show. Not to mention, the emotional reactions this love drunk behavior provokes. To me, capturing these unique stories is like bottling lightning... and it's an honor and responsibility that I don't take for granted.
I also love to travel. In fact, I already travel for most of the weddings on my calendar. So this isn't new for me... I'm just not the type of person that can repeatedly point my camera at the same scenes week in and week out. It's not that there isn't enough beauty and inspiration close by, it's just that the allure of some place else is always beckoning for me.
Perhaps it's because this country is actually my adopted home. I'm originally from South Australia. A place I love and miss deeply. This "love of place" is something I've come to recognize in others. It's something I can relate to in a big way. And it's often most on show when people are deciding where to tie the knot. Many choose to unite their friends and families in a place that is special to them. Be it your hometown, or a destination that speaks to you in a profound way... Where you get married is where this chapter of your story is written. And the sense of place is central to how your wedding memories are forged... The rolling hills, the chill in the air, the fiery sunset, it all sparks a reaction and invokes a mood that will inevitably trigger the memories of your day to come flooding back.
I want to help you remember your wedding as accurately and beautifully as possible! Wherever you are or wherever you're getting married, until I've seen this country, and come to know it as intimately as my own.
WHAT TYPE OF WEDDING ARE YOU HAVING?
I've never been one to believe that there are any rules to how a wedding should go down. It should simply be an experience that invites other's into your world... and shows them who you are, what you care about, and what your love means.
With this in mind, I can help you create the type of experience you want with a little bit of planning guidance along the way. After all, I do this almost every weekend, and every wedding is unique. So you are more than welcome to tap into my expertise when it comes to location scouting, a timeline for the day, and some handy tips for how you can stay present in each phase of the wedding... ensuring that your day feels natural and comfortable.
WHAT IS INVOLVED?
Just to be clear, this isn't a giveaway or a solo art project. As much as I'd love to photograph any couple that connects with my ideas, I do believe there needs to be a mutual exchange of value to keep the work honest and the quality high. So there's still a few stars that need to align for us to pull this off (for example, availability, budget, logistical challenges - all of which we can discuss). But for now, here's what you can expect from the whole experience when all is said and done.
