After living and working abroad for so long, its hard to imagine that my ultimate goal for 2015 is leading me back home to little old Adelaide to continue my wedding photography adventure.
As I write this, I am perched on a bar stool in a rather grimy yet charming Irish pub that I used to work at, or rather, slaved in when I first moved to Florida four years ago. It was the first job I ever had that I used purely as motivation to excel in my real passion for photography before my twenties wither away. I waited tables, mopped floors, and poured a perfect pint of Guinness or two over about a two year period. Simultaneously, I honed my craft at an equally depressing portrait studio, and later at a "high-end" fashion that I refuse to name for fear of bringing back too many soul destroying memories... However, all the while I managed to keep my weekends free for my absolute favorite shooting subject - Weddings. A few years later, and here we are... After my first full calendar year of full time business owning, head scratching, heart pounding, teeth grinding, back breaking, sweat dripping, knee aching, retina burning, coffee drinking, adventuring seeking, future questioning, wedding photography. Oh yeah, and with all the free time I didn't have, I also helped raise a beautiful little toddler.
What I'm getting at, is that 2014 was by far the most stressful yet rewarding year of my life. I went out on a limb, and kicked 2014's ass/arse, and I couldn't be happier about all the beautiful images I created for people along the way. The friends I make in this work (clients and peers) are all truly such supportive and inspirational humans. I love them all!
This year, I will face even bigger challenges... Moving back to Australia, and bringing the family and business with me. I've already started servicing many wonderful Australian couples that have graciously asked me to document their wedding days. I can't wait! And perhaps what I am most excited about, is getting back in touch with the land that raised me and inspired my passion for photography in the first place. South Australia is a truly beautiful piece of the world, I've pined for it's rugged coastline, chilly winter storms, and blazing summer days for the past four years... and I can't wait to see how my relocation will change my philosophy, outlook and the visual aesthetic of my work.
Oh yeah, this post was supposed to be about showing so you some cool wedding photos from 2014... Here ya go :)
