We’re Dan and Josh, two wedding photographers from Adelaide. Dan is actually from the UK and Josh lives in the USA most of time, but Adelaide is our photography home. We have different styles of photography but we both believe that there is a raw and honest beauty that exists within most people. Sometimes it takes a meaningful relationship or a unique experience for people to show it, but photographing this is like bottling lightning. We’re addicted to this pursuit, and it’s been a busy year for us both.
Recently, after a few light ales we came up with an idea to ensure we don’t lose sight of our new year’s resolution of finding an elevated level of creative expression in our photography.
It’s called the #nextlevelphototour
Our trip is taking us from Adelaide to Melbourne via the Great Ocean Road and back home along the more common inland route.
We're departing on Wednesday the 20th of January and aiming to make it back by Australia Day.
Our itinerary is up to you!
We need cool, laid-back couples and individuals to get amongst the landscape and help make our photos awesome. All it will cost is your cooperation and willingness to give us creative freedom with some photo ideas we’ve been dying to try out. There’ll be laughs, obligatory high fives, and we’ll of course share the images with you!
So if you’re living or traveling somewhere along our route or in the Bourne itself (or know someone who is) and want to get weird with us (photographically speaking), drop us a line via the contact page or just hit us up on our socials... Dan and Josh are on the same adventure, but different journeys.
From Dan: 2015 was insane. It was by far my busiest year yet. Shooting 61 weddings all over the joint was both incredible & exhausting. This year is set to be the same. Lucky for me, I purposely booked just two weddings during January this year to give myself a little more me time. I kicked off the new year by flying to Melbourne to see two of my favourite bands, and brought along my camera with the intention of documenting some cool places & people. But after all of the eating & drinking, I ended up with one single sunset photo on the plane home. As soon as I landed, I caught up with Josh and we came up with this crazy idea of driving up the coast and meeting up with complete strangers to photograph them and get funky in the most photographical sense possible. We are both fuelled by creativity and both have a shared vision in what we were hoping to achieve, and that something is going to be next level!
From Josh: 2015 was a long year… Moving countries twice and learning of the two new additions to our family not only shifted the shape and scope of my photography business, but it changed so much of my personal philosophy on why the art of storytelling and image making is important enough to continue pursuing. After a hectic year focusing so strongly on documenting stories for other wonderful individuals, couples and families, I feel as though I may not have set aside enough time to explore the depths of my own creativity through personal projects. The ideas I’ve been carrying around have not been given a chance to breathe, their suffocating, and eating away at my inner artist. In 2016, with new challenges ahead and new needs to fulfill, I’ve vowed to take my art and photography to another level… of beauty, of connection and of originality. This trip is an exercise in finding that next level!
To get you as pumped as we are, here's a little bit of inspiration to showcase the vibe.
